Scholarships

The RMAG Foundation supports earth science research and academic studies for graduate and selected undergraduate students by providing 15 students with scholarship awards in 2024. Many of the awards have specific qualifications which must be documented by student applicants and are described separately for each scholarship. Some of the scholarships are available not only to geology and geophysics students but to other earth science-related sub-disciplines including, but not limited to: geochemistry, hydrology, atmospheric and/or climate sciences, volcanology, mining-related studies, planetary sciences, surface processes, and glaciology. Applications will only be accepted from students at U.S.-based institutions.

The RMAG Foundation is pleased to announce a new scholarship: The SM Energy Scholar Award. SM Energy has generously endowed a $10,000 award to be given to a junior, senior, or graduate student conducting research at an accredited university in the United States. Apply for 2025 Scholarships

Please submit only one application that clearly describes your research.  The RMAG Foundation Trustees will add that one application to all the scholarships for which it qualifies.  Please note that faculty recommendations can be emailed separately to rmagfoundation@gmail.com.

Scholarship applications are due by midnight, January 17, 2025. The RMAG Foundation scholarships will be awarded in mid February, 2025. Note that separate applications need to be filled out for RMAG Foundation scholarships (a single application for all scholarships) and the SM Energy Scholar Award. Each has its own application criteria. Note that a single faculty letter of recommendation can be filed if the applicant applies for all scholarships.
